Samedi dernier, je passais devant le cimetière du mémorial des Nations Unies, et il y avait beaucoup de policiers, de gardes du corps, d’étrangers et de gens en costume, et bien de camionnettes noires.

Le parc commémoratif des N.U.(c’est comme ça qu’on l’appelle ici) est à environ 30 minutes à pied de chez moi.

Bien qu’il y ait toujours des touristes et visiteurs, j’étais un peu surprise et curieuse car ce n’est pas un endroit où beaucoup de gens se rassemblent en même temps.

Last Saturday, I was passing by in front of the UN Memorial Cemetery, and there were a lot of police officers, bodyguards, foreigners and people in suits, and so many black vans.

The UN Memorial Park(that’s the way we call it here) is about 30 minutes’ walk from my house.

Although there are always some visitors and worshipers, I was somewhat surprised/curious because it is not a place where many people gather at the same time.

C’est pour ça il y avait autant de personnes.

On the website, I got to know that the President of Germany had visited the UNMCK on that day.
That’s why there were so many people.

À ma connaissance, ce cimetière des Nations Unies est le seul cimetière militaire des Nations Unies au monde.

As far as I know, this United Nations cemetery is the only United Nations military cemetery in the world.

L’Assemblée nationale coréenne a donné ce terrain à l’ONU pour rembourser les sacrifices des forces de l’ONU, et cet endroit est maintenu par l’organisation liée à l’ONU.

The Korean National Assembly donated the land to the UN to repay the sacrifices of UN forces, and this place has been managed by the United Nations related organization.

Quand j’étais petite, nous y allions pour des excursions avec des camarades de classe.
Quand j’avais une vingtaine d’années, j’y suis allée parce que c’était un si beau parc.
J’ai juste pensé que c’était un endroit idéal pour observer tranquillement le changement de saison.

When I was young, we used to go there for excursions with school friends.
When I was in my early 20s, I went there because it was such a beautiful park.
Then, I just thought it was a great place to quietly observe the change of season.

Je pense que ce n’est que lorsque j’ai atteint la mi-vingtaine que j’ai commencé à réfléchir sérieusement à ce que signifiait cet endroit.

Jusque-là, c’était un endroit qui avait toujours été là, donc franchement, je n’ai jamais pensé à la signification particulière de cet endroit.

I think it was only when I entered my mid-20s that I started to seriously think about what this place meant.

Until then, it was a place that had always been there, so honestly, I never thought about the special meaning of this place.

Mais un jour, quand j’ai visité cet endroit, soudain j’ai eu le coeur tellement brisé.
J’ai littéralement pleuré parce que je me sentais très triste et désolée pour les soldats tués ou blessés au combat pendant la guerre de Corée.

But one day, when I visited this place, it felt like my heart seemed to fall apart. I literally cried because I felt badly sad and sorry for soldiers killed or wounded in battle during Korean War.

Puis, j’ai réalisé qu’ils étaient si jeunes, et que certains d’entre eux étaient encore plus jeunes que moi.

Comment leurs familles pouvaient-elles accepter et supporter ce qui leur était arrivé ?
Cela a dû être trop douloureux.

Then, I realized that they were so young, and that some of them were even younger than me.

How could their families accept and endure that which had befallen them?

A l’intérieur du parc, il y a un canal.

La guerre de Corée a duré trois ans, de juin 1950 à juillet 1953, et plus de 1,9 million de soldats de l’ONU ont été envoyés de 16 pays(Afrique du Sud, Australie, Belgique, Canada, Colombie, États-Unis, Éthiopie, France, Grande-Bretagne, Grèce, Luxembourg, Nouvelle-Zélande, Pays-Bas, Philippines, Thaïlande, Turquie).

Inside the park, there is a waterway.

The Korean War lasted for three years from June 1950 to July 1953, and more than 1.9 million UN troops were dispatched from 16 countries(Australia, Belgium, Luxembourg, Canada, Colombia, Ethiopia, France, Greece, Netherlands, New Zealand, Philippines, Thailand, Turkey, South Africa, United Kingdom, and United States).

Le canal a été nommé en l’honneur de JP DAUNT, soldat australien qui a été le plus jeune.

On dit qu’il est mort au combat juste 13 jours après son arrivée en Corée.

Il est tombé à l’âge de 17 ans le 6 novembre 1951.
Il est le plus jeune reposé en paix à l’UNMCK.

À l’âge de 17 ans !
Peut-être, dans le pays dont il n’a jamais entendu parler auparavant…

The waterway was named in honor of JP DAUNT, Australian soldier who was the youngest.

It is said that he died in battle on the 13th day after arriving in Korea.

He fell at the age of 17 on 6 November 1951.
He is the youngest fallen resting at the UNMCK.

At the age of 17!
Perhaps, in the country he never heard of before…

Today, three of the Korean War veterans were buried in the UN Cemetery: One British and two Dutch.

Il y a des moments où je suis émotionnellement incontrôlable, et c’est surtout quand il s’agit de choses liées à la guerre.

En fait, même au moment où j’écris ceci, je ressens un sentiment difficile à décrire avec des mots.

Je ne fais pas partie d’une génération qui a personnellement vécu la guerre, mais le simple fait d’y penser me fait mal au cœur.

Sans leur sacrifice, la Corée ne serait pas ce qu’elle est, n’est-ce pas ?

In fact, even as I am writing this, it is a feeling that is too difficult to describe.

There are moments when I’m emotionally out of control, especially when it comes to war-related things.

I am not of a generation that has personally experienced war, but just thinking about it hurts my heart.

If it weren’t for their sacrifice, Korea wouldn’t be what it is then, right?

Malheureusement, la guerre n’est toujours pas terminée dans notre pays, et je suis personnellement sceptique quant à l’unification pour le moment.

Je pense que les Nord-Coréens d’il y a 70 ans sont des gens qui partagent la même histoire que nous les Sud-Coréens, mais la Corée du Nord d’aujourd’hui est un pays très peu familier pour moi. Honnêtement, je n’arrive pas à connaître ce pay en détail.

J’espère au moins que nous pourrons trouver un moyen de coexister.
Pas comme une relation bizarre que nous maintenons au présent…!

Unfortunately, the war is still not over in our country, and I am personally skeptical of unification at the moment.

I think the North Koreans of 70 years ago are people who share the same history as South Koreans, but the North Korea of today is a very unfamiliar country for me.
Honestly, I can’t get to know this country in detail now.

I hope at least we can find a way to coexist.
Not like some weird relationship we maintain now…!
