Ma famille va souvent à Geoje (거제도 go.jé.do), parce qu’on a de la famille là-bas.

Depuis que ma tante y vit seule, on y va encore plus souvent, juste pour qu’elle ne se sente pas trop seule. ☺️

My family visits Geoje Island (거제도 guh-je-doh) pretty often, because we’ve got family there.

Ever since my aunt started living alone, we’ve been visiting more often, just to make sure she doesn’t feel too lonely. ☺️

Je ne vis pas à Geoje, mais je connais quand même pas mal de coins de l’île !

J’y vais en touriste depuis plus de vingt ans. 😎

C’est drôle, je n’en ai jamais vraiment parlé sur le blog… jusqu’à aujourd’hui !

(J’ai énormément de photos prises à Geoje sur mon portable. Quand j’aurai le temps, je vais les partager ici.)

I don’t live in Geoje, but I actually know quite a few spots on the island!

I’ve been going there as a tourist for over twenty years. 😎

Funny enough, I’ve never really talked about it on the blog… until now!

(I’ve got a ton of photos taken in Geoje on my phone, so when I have time, I’ll share them with you. haha)

Alors… en tout cas, Geoje n’est pas juste une île — il y en a 87 autres tout autour !

Cette fois-ci, j’avais prévu de visiter l’une d’entre elles : 지심도 Jisimdo (ji.sim.do), aussi appelée « l’île des camélias », car elle est entièrement couverte de ces fleurs. 🌺

Right… Geoje isn’t just one island — there are 87 more scattered all around!

Who knew?

This time, I’d planned to visit one of them: 지심도 Jisimdo (jee-sim-doh), also known as “Camellia Island,” since it’s completely covered in camellias. 🌺

(Petite note historique : J’ai appris que Jisimdo avait été utilisée comme base militaire pendant l’occupation japonaise. On peut encore y voir des traces de cette époque. Pour nous, les Coréens, c’est une période de l’histoire à la fois lourde et sensible.)

(A little historical note: I learned that Jisimdo was once used as a military base during the Japanese occupation. Even today, traces of that period can still be found on the island. For us Koreans, it’s a chapter of history that remains both heavy and sensitive.)

Sinon oui, chaque année, ma mère disait :

« Cette année, on y va ! »

… et les années ont filé. 😅

Mais cette fois, enfin, cette année…

On est enfin parties pour cette île dans l’île !

That being said, every year, my mom would say, “This year, we’ll go!” … and the years just slipped by. 😅

But this time, finally, this year…

We were finally on our way to this island within the island!

Ma sœur était déjà arrivée à Geoje un jour plus tôt, et on s’était donné rendez-vous à l’hôtel.

Alors, quand ma tante est venue chercher ma mère et moi au terminal, je lui ai dit qu’on devait d’abord passer à l’hôtel.

My sister had arrived in Geoje one day earlier, and we were supposed to meet up at the hotel.

So when my aunt came to pick up my mom and me at the terminal, I told her we needed to stop by the hotel first.

Elle a fait de grands yeux :

« Un hôtel ? Pourquoi un hôtel ? Vous auriez pu dormir chez moi ! C’est du gaspillage ! »

« Mais non ! Toi aussi, tu vas dormir à l’hôtel ! C’est nos VACANCES à toutes ! »

En réalité, c’était une surprise.

Ma sœur et moi avions réservé un hôtel avec une belle vue sur Jisimdo — pour cette occasion spéciale.

She looked at me wide-eyed:

“A hotel? Why a hotel? You could’ve stayed with me! What a waste!”

“Come on, you’re staying with us — it’s OUR vacation, you know! No one’s supposed to work this time!”

Actually, it was a surprise.

My sister and I had booked a hotel with a beautiful view of Jisimdo — just for the occasion.

Quand on est arrivées à l’hôtel, ma tante a vu la vue depuis la chambre…

Et là, son visage a changé. 😌

When we got to the hotel, my aunt saw the view from our room…

And that’s when her face changed. 😌

Elle a regardé au loin, vers Jisimdo, et elle a simplement dit :

« Bon… d’accord. C’est vrai que la vue est pas mal. » 😏

She looked out toward Jisimdo and simply said,

“Okay… fair enough. The view’s actually pretty nice.”

Et ce n’était pas juste la vue !

La chambre nous a toutes plu : propre, cosy, et franchement pas mal pour une pension locale.

And it wasn’t just the view.

She liked the room too — and so did we. 🙂

It was clean, cozy, and honestly not bad at all for a local pension.

Et là, ma mère et ma tante ont commencé à poser comme d’habitude. haha 📸

And then… my mom and my aunt started posing like they always do. haha 📸

C’est d’ailleurs à ce moment-là que j’ai réalisé un truc bizarre :
certaines de mes photos étaient floues ! 😫

And that’s when I noticed something weird:
some of the photos were blurry! 😫

À peine un mois plus tôt, j’avais fait réparer tout le téléphone de fond en comble, appareil photo compris, tout était censé être comme neuf…et pourtant, voilà le résultat ! 🤨🫢

Just a month ago, I had gotten my entire phone fully serviced, top to bottom, including the camera.

It was supposed to be as good as new… and yet — look at this mess! 🤨🤪

Le soir même, nous sommes allées dîner dans un restaurant coréen classique, vous savez, ceux où vous devez vous-même griller votre viande. 😅

That evening, we went to a classic Korean BBQ place — you know the kind, where you all have to grill your own meat. 😅

Ça faisait une éternité qu’on n’avait pas mangé de 갈비 Galbi comme ça.

Et c’était délicieux ! 😋

It had been ages since we’d had 갈비 Galbi, and it was so good!😋

Il y avait pas mal de monde, et nous avons dû demander plusieurs fois à changer la grille de cuisson.

The restaurant was quite full, and we had to ask several times to get the grill grate changed.

Mais le vrai souci avec ce type de resto, c’est qu’il y a toujours quelqu’un parmi vous qui finit par manger en décalé, occupé à surveiller la cuisson pour les autres.

But here’s the thing with these places — there’s always someone in your group who ends up eating late, because they’re busy cooking for everyone else.

C’est aussi pour ça que nous évitons souvent ce genre d’endroit :

on préfère quand vous pouvez tous manger chaud, ensemble, au même moment.

That’s also why we usually avoid places like this:

we prefer when everyone at the table gets to eat together — while the food’s still hot.

Après le dîner, nous sommes retournées à l’hôtel.

Il y avait un petit chemin de promenade juste derrière, qui menait jusqu’à la plage.

After dinner, we came back to the hotel.

There was a walking trail just behind it, leading toward the beach.

Tout était joliment éclairé — mais apparemment, les lumières s’éteignaient après 22h.

Ma mère s’est endormie tôt, alors ma tante, ma sœur et moi sommes sorties prendre l’air, histoire de digérer un peu. 🌬️

It was beautifully lit — though I think the lights went off after 10 p.m.

My mom went to bed early, so my aunt, my sister and I stepped outside for a little walk, just to help digest. 🌬️

Mais le vent s’est soudainement levé… et pas qu’un peu !

On a marché un moment, puis on a fini par faire demi-tour : le vent soufflait trop fort, c’était devenu un peu dangereux.

But the wind suddenly picked up — and I mean, really picked up!

We walked for a bit, but ended up turning back.

It started to feel dangerous, with the wind blowing so strong.

On est remontées dans la chambre et on a profité du jacuzzi.

So we headed back and got into the jacuzzi.

On papotait, en regardant la pluie tomber à travers la baie vitrée… et c’était super apaisant.

We chatted, soaking and watching the rain fall through the big window…and honestly?

It was peaceful in the most dramatic way.

Et puis d’un coup, des trombes d’eau ! ⛈️⛈️🫢

Le vent soufflait comme un fou !

On s’est regardées avec de grands yeux :

« Mais… et demain ? On est censées aller à Jisimdo ! »

C’était pour ça qu’on avait réservé un hôtel près du port !

Then suddenly — torrential rain. 🌧️

The wind was howling like crazy.

We looked at each other like:

“Wait… but what about tomorrow? We’re supposed to go to Jisimdo!”

That’s the whole reason we booked a hotel near the port!

Le lendemain matin, on s’est levées et on a tout de suite vérifié les ferries pour Jisimdo.

Tous annulés.

On a juste… éclaté de rire.

On avait tout planifié, et au final — rien du tout.

The next morning, we got up and immediately checked the ferry to Jisimdo.

All canceled.

And honestly? We just laughed.

We had made all these plans, and in the end — nothing.

Mais là, on s’est toutes regardées et on s’est dit :

« Heureusement qu’on a pris un hôtel ! »

Si on avait dormi chez ma tante, on n’aurait même pas vu la mer… ni Jisimdo ! 😅

Là, au moins, on avait eu une super vue et un bon lit.

C’était peut-être le meilleur plan, sans le savoir.

But then we looked at each other and said:

“Good thing we booked the hotel!”

If we’d stayed at my aunt’s place, we wouldn’t have seen the sea, let alone Jisimdo. 😅

At least we got a gorgeous view and comfy beds.

Maybe that was the best decision we made without even knowing it.

Alors ma mère a souri et a dit :

« C’est pas si mal, si on y pense. On peut toujours voir Jisimdo depuis la chambre, et on n’a plus besoin de courir pour attraper le ferry. On a tout ce temps libre ce matin — et moi je vais enfin profiter du jacuzzi que j’ai loupé hier soir ! »

Then my mom smiled and said,

“It’s kind of nice, if you think about it. We can still see Jisimdo from the window, and we don’t have to rush for the ferry now. We’ve got extra time this morning — which means I finally get to try the jacuzzi I missed out on last night!”

Puis elle a rigolé et a ajouté :

« Passe-moi ma liseuse. Je vais m’installer dans le bain et ne rien faire du tout. »

On a toutes éclaté de rire.

Then she laughed and added,

“Give me my e-reader. I’m gonna soak in that tub and do absolutely nothing.”

We all cracked up.

Le programme était fichu, mais à ce moment-là, ça ne ressemblait pas à un échec.

C’était inattendu… mais pas raté.

The whole plan had flopped, but somehow, in that moment, it didn’t feel like such a failure.

It was unexpected… but definitely not ruined.

Après le check-out, on voulait déjeuner au restaurant au 2ᵉ étage de l’hôtel.

Avec la pluie, on s’est dit que ce serait parfait pour profiter de la vue tout en restant au sec.

Mais même avec ce temps… c’était complet.

Et là, on a compris : ce n’était pas vraiment l’hôtel qui était connu, c’était son resto au 2ᵉ étage, apparemment « 뷰맛집(pyu.mat.jip), LE spot pour la vue ». 😅

Alors, on a dû changer de plan.

After check out, we wanted to have lunch at the restaurant on the hotel’s second floor.

With the rain, we thought it’d be the perfect way to enjoy the view without getting soaked.

But even with this weather… it was fully booked.

That’s when we realized — it wasn’t really the hotel that was famous, it was the second-floor restaurant that was apparently “뷰맛집(pyu.mat.jip), THE place for the view.” 😅

So, we had to change plans.

Du coup, on est sorties du bâtiment et on a cherché un autre endroit où manger.

Et comme j’adore les Kalguksu(칼국수, kal-gouk-ssou), on a trouvé un resto spécialisé dans les Kalguksu aux fruits de mer(해물칼국수, hémoul kal-gouk-ssou).

So we left the hotel and looked for somewhere else to eat.

Since I love Kalguksu(칼국수, kal-guk-ssu), we found a place that served seafood Kalguksu(해물칼국수, heh-mul kal-guk-ssou).

C’était encore un de ces endroits où des robots faisaient le service.

Vous en voyez souvent dans vos pays, vous aussi ?

Moi, je me souviens avoir filmé un robot serveur dans une pizzeria il y a quelques années parce que je trouvais ça tellement fou. haha

It turned out to be one of those restaurants where robots do the serving.

Do you see those often in your country too?

I still remember filming a robot server at a pizza place a few years ago because I thought it was so wild. haha

Quand on vient à Geoje, on mange souvent des fruits de mer — et là encore, on a bien mangé, ça oui.

Mais là, ce n’était pas non plus LE resto incontournable, donc je ne vais pas spécialement vous le recommander ! 😁

Whenever we come to Geoje, we tend to eat a lot of seafood — and yep, this time was no different.

We had plenty.

But it wasn’t exactly a must-try spot, so I wouldn’t necessarily recommend it. 😁

Bon, ce post n’était pas vraiment censé parler de Jisimdo, vu qu’on n’y est même pas allées au final. 😅

Si j’écris tout ça, c’est surtout parce que l’hôtel nous a vraiment plu.

I’m mostly writing all this because we just really loved the hotel.

Ce que j’ai aimé ?

Chaque chambre avait son garage privé, donc pas besoin de décharger les valises pour le check-in.

Tout était conçu pour que chaque famille ait sa propre intimité, avec *vue mer garantie*. 😁

What did I like about it?

Each room had its own private garage, so there was no need to unload bags at check-in.

Everything was set up so each family had its own little private space, with a guaranteed ocean view. 😁

Le parking était au rez-de-chaussée, et on montait directement par un escalier vers son petit appartement au 2ᵉ.

Franchement, c’était top pour la tranquillité.

The parking was on the ground floor, and from there you’d just take a staircase straight up to your little apartment on the second floor.

Honestly, it was perfect for privacy and quiet.

Par contre, pas d’ascenseur, et les escaliers étaient assez étroits.

Donc si vous avez des problèmes de mobilité ou des tonnes de bagages, je ne vous le recommanderais pas.

(Je peux vous dire que ma mère n’a pas trouvé ça pratique du tout. Ah !!!! Je n’ai même pas pris de photo des escaliers — j’étais sûre que oui ! Incroyable.)

But: no elevator, and the stairs were pretty narrow.

So if you have mobility issues or tons of luggage, I wouldn’t really recommend it.

(I can tell you my mom didn’t find it convenient at all. Why didn’t I even take a picture of those stairs ? 😭 I was so sure I had! Unbelievable.)

À l’intérieur, tout était propre et pratique pour un séjour en famille.

Ah oui, il y avait des chambres avec jacuzzi, d’autres avec piscine chauffée — et comme je vous ai dit, moi j’ai pris celle avec jacuzzi.

Et tous les clients pouvaient profiter de la piscine à débordement dehors (qu’on n’a pas testée vu la météo catastrophique !😂).

Inside, everything was clean and well set up for a family stay.

Oh, and there were rooms with jacuzzis, others with heated pools — like I mentioned, we picked the jacuzzi one.

All the guests could also use the outdoor infinity pool (which we didn’t try, given the absolutely insane weather! 😂).

Bref, si un jour on retourne à Jisimdo pour de vrai, je pense qu’on pourrait reprendre cet hôtel.

Il nous a laissé un super souvenir en famille. 🙂

Je sais, on dirait carrément une pub… mais ce n’en est pas une ! 🤣

Passez un très beau mois de juilliet, tout le monde !

Anyway, if we ever actually make it to Jisimdo for real someday, I think we might stay at this hotel again.

It gave us such a sweet family memory. 🙂

I know it probably sounds like an ad — but it’s not, I swear. ahaha 🤣

벌써 7월 1일이다.
꿉꿉한 날씨는 별로지만, 달이 바뀌는 건 근사하다!
길가다가 우연히 HJ를 만나서, 바로 앞 카페에서 아주 짧게 이야기를 나눴다.
인생의 반 이상을 친구로 지내서 그런지 자주 보지 않아도 어색하지 않다.
만나면 늘 새로운 이야기 한 보따리로 “우리 언제 봤었지? 어디까지 얘기했었지?”로 시작한다.
그렇게 단숨에 영원히 끝나지 않을 이야기를 한다.
다음에 만나도 “우리 어디까지 얘기했었지?”하고 시작하겠지? 😊
